Applications are being accepted to establish an eligibility list for filling future openings in the Medford Police Department.
BENEFITS: City provided insurances available upon completion of designated waiting periods: Currently City pays for full-family medical, dental and vision (employee pays $59.50 per month for family coverage); employee long-term disability and $50,000 term life; 1.2% of salary + $100 per month contributed by the city to a Medical Savings Account. Ten days vacation, twelve paid holidays, and twelve days sick leave accrued per year. Eligible for employer paid OPSRP after six months, unless applicant is already an Oregon PERS member. Position represented by Teamsters Local #223.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge or ability to learn use of firearms. Ability to learn, understand, and interpret laws, ordinances, policies, and regulations, write clear and accurate reports, remember names, faces, and details of incidents, understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions, analyze situations and adopt a quick and reasonable course of action, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Education and Experience – High school graduate. Additional college course work in Criminology, Police Science, or related field preferred. Keyboarding, computer skills and bilingual Spanish skills are desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. 21 years of age 2. U.S. citizen 3. Good physical condition 4. Valid Oregon driver's license by hire date 5. Must meet DPSST Standards for speech, hearing and vision 6. No felony convictions; no misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude or dishonesty 7. Smoking prohibited in all City buildings and Police vehicles.
SELECTION PROCESS: Qualifying candidates will be invited to participate in a written examination is scheduled for Saturday, October 9, 2010 (location and time will be announced). All applicants invited to test will be required to pay a non-refundable test fee not to exceed $10.00. Applications and test results will be reviewed by the Human Resources Department. Candidates most closely meeting the City’s needs will be invited to participate in an Assessment Center to include physical agility testing. Hiring subject to favorable background investigation, as well as physical (including drug screen) and psychological exam. Selection procedure and time lines subject to change.
