Mayor Gary H. Wheeler was first elected to serve the City of Medford in 2004. He has served as Mayor since then, with his current term of office ending December of 2020.
A lifelong resident of Medford, Mayor Wheeler is a graduate of Medford Senior High School, and Pacific University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science and later became a Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University's College of Optometry.
Mayor Wheeler served as a Captain in the U.S. Army at Raymond Bliss Army Hospital from 1968 to 1970. He and his wife, Treasure, also a Doctor of Optometry, have operated a private optometric practice in Medford since 1971. Mayor Wheeler is a past President of the Oregon Optometric Physicians' Association.
Mayor Wheeler previously served the City of Medford on the Citizens' Budget Committee from 1976 through 1978 and as Chairman of the Police Levy in 1989.
He was a member of the Medford Urban Renewal Agency Board and the Bear Creek Enhancement Taskforce from 1991 to 2004 and served as Chairman in 1994 and 1995.
Mayor Wheeler is presently a member of the Medford Rogue Rotary and the Carpenter Society. Past board affiliations include:
