On 110409, construction workers at the new South Medford interchange contacted the Medford Police Department to report break-ins to storage containers/trailers at their worksite overnight. Sometime between 110309/1700 hours and 110409/0640 hours, unknown suspect(s) defeated locks and entered at least three large storage containers/trailers at the freeway interchange worksite. The trailers belong to Pacific Electrical Contractors, LTM-Knife River Co., and Wildish Construction. A large amount of construction equipment was stolen to include: saws, drills, chainsaws, generators, pipe threading machine, compactors, and various electronic construction equipment. The total loss is estimated to be approximately $25,000.
On 110709 at approximately 1640 hours, construction workers reported an attempted break-in at another storage container/trailer located on Barnett Road near the Barnett Road/I-5 overpass. Sometime between 110609/1530 hours and 110709/0730 hours, unknown suspects attempted to gain entry into the storage container but were unsuccessful, although they damaged the container/trailer in their attempt.
A construction employee reported seeing an unknown/suspicious vehicle entering the construction area of the new South Medford interchange during the late afternoon hours on 110309. The vehicle is described below:
Suspicious Vehicle seen at location of thefts:
-Brown 1970s, Jeep Wagoneer type SUV.
The operator was described as a white male adult, approximately 35 years old, brown short hair with a goatee.
