(MEDFORD, Nov. 17, 2017) – The Medford Parks and Recreation Department announced at least 32 tournaments and events are scheduled at U.S. Cellular Community Park in 2018, including four new youth baseball events.
The tournament schedule, which can be viewed at, features 15 adult softball events, eight girls’ fast pitch events, 14 youth baseball gatherings as well as the annual Rogue Valley Timbers’ Memorial Day weekend soccer tournament.
Twenty-five of the tournaments will be coordinated by MPRD, and more events may be added in the coming weeks, according to Recreation Superintendent,  Jesse Nyberg.
The youth hardball offerings are annual events the same weekend as previous years.and adult softball tournaments set participation records. Adult softball tournaments, such as the Firecracker Overnighter and Halloween Havoc have become annual traditions for softball players all over the region, selling out weeks prior.   The yearly tournament team count is on pace to surpass 2016 by 4%.
Youth baseball tournaments held at USCCP has averaged a 15% team participation increase since 2014.  The popularity of the youth baseball offerings has warranted the addition of two winter jamboree-style events and a July tournament named the “Mid-Summer Monster”.
“USCCP has made the Rogue Valley a mecca for youth baseball,” Nyberg said, “and we’re doing everything we can to meet the demand for youth baseball tournaments.”
The City of Medford will coordinate the USA Softball 14A Western National, July 30 - Aug. 5, which is expected to draw 30+ teams. Since 2010, the City of Medford has earned nine USA Softball awards for excellence in tournament coordination.
The largest event is expected to be the annual Valley South College Exposure fastpitch tournament the second weekend of October, which featured 56 teams in 2017, including 56 from outside the Rogue Valley.
The tournament slate includes the Rogue Memorial Challenge, a Memorial Day weekend soccer gathering organized by the Rogue Valley Timbers soccer club.
