The City of Medford and Medford Police Department have received many inquiries from the community about use-of-force policies and how they align with the guidelines being advocated by many police reform organizations. The attached guide highlights MPD’s current policies related to use-of-force.

“In light of reprehensible actions demonstrated across the country, I feel it is imperative to convey our policing philosophy and culture,” said Police Chief, Scott Clauson. “MPD is known through-out the state as a reputable, professional, and progressive department.  We adhere to the latest evidence-based practices and are constantly learning as a workforce. Our policies promote good policing, at the same time, I personally believe true success comes from ethical decision-making and empowering employees to have moral courage when faced with ethical dilemmas.”

MPD policies are evaluated on a monthly basis in an effort to ensure they meet the expectations of our community and officers.

“We value our strong relationship with the community and recognize the importance of reviewing and evolving our policies. We welcome comments and concerns from our citizens,” said Chief Clauson.

MPD is dedicated to maintaining safe and equitable policing for all Medford citizens.
