The Civil Engineering Section provides services related to the expansion of the public infrastructure by designing and constructing City-funded public improvement projects, and providing oversight and inspection on all privately financed public improvement projects. The public infrastructure responsibilities of the Civil Engineering Section are streets, sanitary sewers, storm drains, sidewalks and the public right-of-way in general.
This Section is made up of the following sub-sections: surveying, design and construction, records, and utilities.
The Surveying sub-section of Civil Engineering is responsible for preliminary topographic surveying and construction staking related to City-financed public improvement projects, subdivision and land partition plat review, legal description writing and review, GIS coordination GPS, and maintenance of the City’s horizontal and vertical control network.
The Design and Construction sub-section is responsible for project design, contract administration, utility coordination, inspection, right-of-way acquisition, and overall project management of all City-financed public improvement projects. It is also responsible for enforcing engineering and construction standards on all privately financed public improvement projects through plan review and construction inspection.
The Records sub-section maintains and updates a variety of Engineering records and maps and coordinates with GIS.
The Utilities sub-section is responsible for the continued expansion and maintenance of the City’s underground utility systems through the development of master plans, analysis of flow data, insuring compliance with State and Federal Standards, planning and development of capital projects, coordination with regional agencies, development of standards, and long-range budgeting.
