Residential Disabled Person Parking Program:
Medford residents who possess a disabled person renewable parking permit may request installation of a disabled person parking space adjacent to their residence, subject to certain criteria. “Standard” (i.e. not wheelchair or van specific) disabled person parking spaces are the only type of residential street installation, regardless of the type of parking permit held by the requestor. Only one space per property will be installed on a first-come, first-served basis. This program is free of charge.
Eligibility: Submit requests via email to Public Works Engineering or through a Citizen Request Form. If all criteria are met, Public Works will install disabled person parking signs for a single space. Requests are typically answered within 6 weeks.
Removal: Removal of an installed disabled person parking space shall be upon request. If Public Works can verify continued need with original requestor, the space will remain; if not, the space will be removed. If street maintenance impacts space, verification of continued need may be required at that time. If the applicant moves, becomes deceased or is no longer a person with a disability, notice must be provided via email to Public Works Engineering or by calling (541) 774-2100.
Allowable Use: Spaces are intended to be for public use and are not reserved for an individual. Any vehicle displaying the proper disabled person parking permit may occupy the space. All applicable parking codes and laws apply (e.g. vehicles cannot be stored in excess of 5 days per Municipal Code 6.345).
Repair: Public Works owns and maintains the signs. Please report damage by calling 541-774-2600 during normal business hours.
Additional parking info:
The State of Oregon provides disabled person parking permits. Permit and parking regulation information can be found on the Oregon DMV website.
Requests for parking modifications in Medford’s Central Business District shall be reviewed by the Parking Commission in accordance with Medford Municipal Code Section 2.447.
Oregon Structural Specialty Code and Medford Municipal Code, among others, dictate private on-site parking space requirements. Public Works will not install disabled person parking spaces in the public right-of-way to meet on-site requirements. However, if a business has already met on-site parking requirements and requests on-street disabled person parking, Public Works may install a space at a location determined to provide the most benefit to the public and/or present the request to the Traffic Coordinating Committee (TCC) for review.
