In Memoriam - Medford Firefighters

The Medford Fire Department is mourning the loss of two of its Firefighters, John R. Wells and Gale C. Gurr, who died in a tragic accident while riding in an ATV in the John's Peak  area near Jacksonville, OR

Firefighter/EMT-B John R. Wells, 51, worked for the Medford Fire Department for 15-1/2 years, and worked for Klamath Falls Fire District #1 before that. John leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Engineer/Paramedic Gale Gurr, 37, worked for the Medford Fire Department for 9 1/2 years, and worked for the Phoenix Fire Department before that. Gale is survived by his wife and two young daughters.

Fire Chief Dave Bierwiler notes "At this time, we are focusing on the needs of the families of Engineer Gurr and Firefighter Wells. In addition, we are taking steps to make sure that the needs of our remaining staff are also addressed as they deal with the tragic deaths of our colleagues.  Firefighter John and Engineer Gurr lived life to the fullest.  Their enthusiasm will be missed.

Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 2:00 PM at Mountain Christian Fellowship, 1 E. Main Street in Medford.

Anyone who would like to donate to the families of John and Gale can do so by mailing checks made out to the "Medford Firefighters Association" to:

Medford Firefighters Association, PO Box 1202, Medford, OR 97501
