Fire Investigation Program

House FireIn accordance with Oregon's statutes, every fire is investigated to determine the:

  • Origin
  • Cause
  • Circumstances

The Fire & Life Safety Division investigates 60-100 fires annually. These consist of the more complex fires, including suspicious fires, fires resulting in injury or death,  and fires with significant dollar losses. Primarily the fires investigated involve structures, vehicles, and vegetation.

By investigating these fires, we can find out:

  • Where the fires are occurringHouse Fire
  • What are the leading causes of fires
  • How to prevent future fires
  • When illegal activity has occurred

The goal of investigating the fires is to not only determine the origin, cause, and circumstances, but to learn from each fire so that we can prevent tragedy in the future.
