The officers also receive yearly training in legal updates, building searches, crowd control, hazardous materials, Oregon Physical Agility Testing (fitness), school violence, and active shooter situations.
The average officer receives approximately 96 hours of training per year in-house, and can put in requests for specialized training in other areas of interest as well.
Medford Police Department's training is comprised of both classroom and hand-on, with force on force training emphasized through the use of scenario based training and simulations. We have a number of dedicated officers that are DPSST trained to teach in the listed subject areas.
The department also trains 10-20 minutes daily through the use of Briefing Training to keep abreast of the latest polices, procedures, and trends in law enforcement.
