The Tactical Information Unit (TIU) is a sub-unit of MADGE (Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement Team). It is currently staffed by 2 full time crime analysts along with a full-time Jackson County Sheriff’s Office crime analyst. They collect, analyze and disseminate information on criminal activity to the various divisions within the police department including the MADGETeam.
The analysts provide tactical, investigative and strategic analytical support to patrol officers, detectives and command staff in addition to answering citizen requests for information on crime trends and information within the community.
The unit also monitors the county-wide anonymous tip line utilized by MADGE, 541-618-1TIP (1847). In addition to narcotic and gang related tips, information can be left anonymously concerning any type of criminal activity within the county.
Analysts are also involved in receiving tips generated by the Crime Stoppers Program. Once a week, analysts provide information to the media concerning unsolved crimes and/or wanted persons within the community. Crime Stoppers offer rewards for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-850-0580
During 2010, the Department began utilizing an internet-based crime mapping program that allows citizens to see recent crime activity in their neighborhood within the city limits of Medford. This program, CrimeMapping.com, is free of charge.
