General Information

The Building Safety Department is responsible for the regulation of all new, altered, and existing buildings within the city. This process includes residential and commercial plan review, field inspections, and administration. The basic purpose is to assure public safety by verifying compliance with City ordinances and state and national codes. To effectively respond to the level of local construction activity, our staff has developed measures to minimize processing delays of plan checks, field inspections, and coordination work associated with all building permit activities. Check-lists for Residential and Commercial Building Permit application have helped the applicant assist us with maintaining minimum processing delays. Links to these Check-lists can be found on the bottom left side of this page, under Additional Department Information. Our field inspectors provide a much above average response inspection service to contractors and builders. The field inspectors are proud to maintain a one day turn around time from the request for inspection to the actual inspection. This high level of City service is provided while staying within the same inspection fee schedule established by the State of Oregon.
