CITIZEN'S ACADEMY 2019
The Medford Police Department is pleased to announce that on Wednesday’s beginning January 9, 2019, the Citizen’s Academy will be offered to selected residents of our community.

Times: Wednesdays 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

The Medford Police Department Citizen’s Academy is a 33-hour course of instruction presented by selected members of the Police Department to interested persons who reside or work in our community. Among the topics to be covered during this program are:
General Administration and Philosophy of Services
Criminal Investigation and Prosecution of Cases
Patrol and Traffic Operations
Recruitment, Selection, and Training of Police Personnel
Use of Force and Personnel Issues
Deployment and Tactics of the Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT)
Drug Enforcement and Gang Suppression Issues
These are only a few of the topics and contemporary criminal justice issues that will be presented and discussed during the 11-week session.
HOW TO APPLY:
Interested persons are invited to obtain an application from the Medford Police Records Division or online. Participants must meet the following requirements: be at least 18 years of age or older by class start date; currently be a City of Medford resident and/or currently be employed in the City of Medford; and be able to pass a criminal background check (no felony convictions, no misdemeanor arrests within 12 months prior to class, and no pending criminal case(s).) A background and screening process is conducted due to the content/nature of the classes being given. You must also submit the hold harmless agreement and student agreement form(s) with your application to be considered. If all of the required forms are not submitted your application will not be considered.
The deadline for submitting completed applications to be considered for this session is Friday, December 14th, 2018 or until the class is full. Applications will be taken on a first come-first serve basis. Class size is limited to the first 30 approved/qualified applicants.
The course is free, but to graduate each student must attend at least 80% of the classes (9 of 11).
Please keep in mind, the academy is not a recruiting tool, nor will it provide any advantage in gaining employment with the City of Medford.
