On November 9th, 2010, the Medford Police Department unveiled a permanent prescription drug drop box in the lobby of the police department on the first floor of the new police station, 219 S. Ivy Street, Medford, Oregon.
Instructions are located on the front of the box.
The following items are accepted: prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, medication samples, medication for pets, ointments, lotions and liquid medications that are contained within a leak-proof container.
The following items are NOT accepted: Needles (sharps), thermometers, bloody or infectious waste, medications from businesses/clinics/pharmacies/hospitals, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans and inhalers.
The idea behind this project is the get unused and expired prescriptions/medications out of the medicine cabinet in hopes of reducing the risk of abuse/theft, in addition to keeping medications out of our water and waste treatment systems.
