"Providing financial assistance for low-income eligible homeowners"
The City of Medford offers a program for low-income eligible homeowners for home repairs through the Housing Authority of Jackson County. Funding for the program comes from the City of Medford's Community Development Block Grant Program.
Financial assistance is available to correct problems that could create a threat to the health and safety of the occupants. This includes leaking roofs, inefficient wood stoves, failed heating systems, unsafe wiring, failed plumbing systems, broken water heaters, broken glass, dangerous lead paint and structural defects such as severe dry rot.The program may also help with weatherize of homes to achieve a more energy efficient environment for the homeowner(s). Low-income homeowners with disabilities may be eligible for assistance with the removal of architectural barriers, installations of ramps, handrails and grab bars as well as modifications of doorways.
General Eligibility Requirements
The property must be located within the city limits of Medford.
Applicants must either be buying their home or own it entirely.
The home must be in a habitable condition and able to pass a basic inspection for habitability and safety.
Annual gross income of the entire household must not exceed 80% of the current median income amount, adjusted for family size, as established by HUD's FY 2018 Income Limits for Jackson County.
All work will be performed by licensed and bonded contractors. The Housing Authority staff will conduct inspections, provide work write-ups and make contractor payments. The homeowner procures three bids, if possible, and chooses the contractor.
Special Note: The City has designated priority funding for eligible Liberty Park, McLoughlin and Washington neighborhood residents for housing rehabilitation.
