2020 Ballot Measures

NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF BALLOT TITLE
 
Notice is hereby given that a ballot title for a proposed initiative measure was filed with the City Elections Officer of the City of Medford on January 6, 2020. The text of the measure meets the one subject requirement. The ballot title is:

CAPTION:      Amends Charter; transient lodging intermediaries may pay transient lodging tax.
 
QUESTION:   Shall the City of Medford collect transient lodging tax from transient lodging intermediaries in addition to owners and operators?
 
SUMMARY:   Amends Medford City Charter. Provides that the City of Medford may collect transient lodging tax from transient lodging intermediaries in addition to owners or operators.
 
 
Complete copies of both the ballot title and text of the initiative petition can be obtained at the City Recorderís Office, City Hall, 411 W. Eighth Street, Medford, Oregon 97501.
 
Any elector who is dissatisfied with the ballot title, may petition the Circuit Court seeking a different title and stating the reasons the title filed is insufficient, not concise or unfair. Petition must name as respondent the City Attorney and must be filed no later than the 7th day after ballot title is filed with the City Recorder. Deadline is January 15, 2020.
 
Any elector filing a petition shall notify the City Elections Officer in writing that the petition has been filed. The notice shall be given no later than 5 p.m. on the next business day following the day the petition is filed with the Circuit Court.

QUESTION:   Shall Medford City Council by ordinance impose and levy a transient lodging tax not exceeding 11% on gross room receipts?
 
SUMMARY:   Amends Medford City Charter. Provides that the City of Medford may by ordinance impose and levy a transient lodging tax not exceeding 11% on gross room receipts on most premises rented for a period of twenty seven days or less. Changes the tax rate from 9% to 11%; all other room tax provisions remain unchanged.
