******UPDATE******

In the hours following the murder of Jordan Andres, MPD detectives were
able to identify the suspect as 25 year old, Frank Joseph Hernandez.
Detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest and began searching for him.

On 4/13/17 at approximately 4:00pm detectives determined Hernandez
was inside a residence in the 6500 block of Kentucky Drive, near Gold Hill.
The Medford Police SWAT Team, Medford Detectives and MADGE
investigators surrounded the location and determined Hernandez was the
only person inside.

SWAT team members were able to establish verbal contact with
Hernandez, who indicated he was armed with multiple firearms and was
not going to exit the home. Medford Police negotiators began
communications with Hernandez, which lasted over two hours.

It became increasingly apparent that Hernandez was not going to exit the
home and made threats to shoot himself or force police to shoot him.

MPD SWAT deployed tear gas into the home and Hernandez exited
minutes later. Hernandez was cooperative with police and he was taken
into custody without further incident. The weapon used in the homicide
was recovered at the home.

Hernandez was transported to a local hospital where he remained
overnight for evaluation. He has since been lodged at the Jackson County
Jail.

Investigators determined Hernandez and Andres were involved in a
dispute over drugs and the shooting was witnessed by several subjects
who left the scene prior to police arrival. Detectives were able to identify
and locate those witnesses.

After the shooting, Hernandez fled the scene in a red Toyota Camry with
two additional occupants. He forced them to remain in the vehicle and
drive to a residence in the 7000 block of Hwy 238.

The residents at the Hwy 238 address, Vern Auten, 57 years old, and
Wendi Burrill, 54 years old, assisted Hernandez in hiding the Toyota
Camry and transporting him to a another location.

On 4/14/17 a search warrant was executed at the address on Hwy 238 and
additional evidence was located. The Toyota Camry was recovered near
Cantrell Buckley Park.
