Barnett Road, Medford

On April 28, 2017 at 3:10 a.m. ECSO 911 (Emergency Communications of
Southern Oregon) received a 911 call from a suicidal subject requesting
assistance. The subject was uncooperative with 911 and would not
provide his name or location. ECSO was able to determine the 911 call
originated in the area of Valley of the Rogue State Park. Oregon State
Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded and were
unable to locate the subject at the park.

At 4:17 a.m. security with ARRMC (Asante Rogue Regional Medical
Center,) reported a suicidal male subject armed with a handgun in the
parking lot of the emergency room entrance. Medford Police Officers
responded and were able to engage the subject in conversation and keep
him contained in the small parking lot. The subject was identified as 59
year old, Donald Moore Jr. from Cave Junction. Moore was determined to
be the same subject who had previously called from Valley of the Rogue

The Medford Police Department SWAT Team responded along with
negotiators from the Medford Police Department and Jackson County
Mental Health. Negotiations continued with the subject for over three
hours. At approximately 7:30 a.m. the Medford Police Department SWAT
team used several diversionary devices along with less lethal options and
were able to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was found to be
in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol when he was arrested. The suspect,
Donald Moore, was medically cleared at the hospital and lodged at the
Jackson County Jail on the below listed charges. Additionally a Jackson
County Mental Health hold was placed on the suspect when he was

The Medford Police Department worked closely with management from
ARRMC to ensure patients and hospital staff were not in danger. The
Medford Police Department was further assisted by Troopers and
Deputies from Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s
