Aggravated Animal Abuse Suspect Arrested

On February 1, 2018 at 5:40 PM, Medford Police Officers responded to the 700 Block of Stevens Street. A family member reported, 24 year old Jordan Vogel, had strangled and stabbed the family dog inside their home. The witness fled the apartment, after an unsuccessful attempt to stop Vogel from assaulting the dog. Upon arrival, officers found the apartment to be vacant and the deceased dog was located in a back bedroom.

Officers immediately began to search the area for Vogel, who according to the witness's statement suffers chronic mental illness. Vogel was located a short time later in a parking lot adjacent to his residence. He was arrested without further incident.

The investigation determined Vogel and the family member were engaged in a verbal disagreement that lead to Vogel killing the dog. During the struggle with Vogel, to stop him from attacking their dog, the family member sustained minor injuries.

Vogel was lodged at the Jackson County Jail and charged with Aggravated Animal Abuse, Assault 4, Harassment and Coercion.

Medford Police are familiar with Vogel, who was arrested on January 22, 2018 after an incident that resulted in him assaulting a Medford Police officer.
