During the May 17, 2018, City Council meeting the Mayor and City Council responded to the recent fliers that had been distributed by a hate group in an east Medford neighborhood.
At the Council meeting, the Mayor offered the below statements and read Resolution 2017-06
which was adopted by the City Council in 2017 to highlight the Councilís commitment to social and cultural diversity.
The City Council asked that this information be placed on the City website and be made available to the media.
Mayor Wheeler stated:
We want to address the recent recruitment flyers distributed in an east Medford neighborhood by a hate group.
While Medford Police investigated the matter and concluded that the recruitment flyers are protected under the state of Oregon and U.S. constitutions, that does not mean the City of Medford supports or condones the message of the group that distributed the fliers.
The City of Medford values diversity and condemns hate. We, as a Council, stand by our commitment to support social and cultural diversity and below is the resolution we adopted in 2017 that speaks to this commitment.
