Join a City Commission, Committee or Board

Get InvolvedThe Medford Mayor and City Council are looking for community members to volunteer on City Boards, Commissions, and Committees. Below is a list of available volunteer positions.

Our community is growing and this is an excellent opportunity to add your voice to those who govern our city. Please consider joining a group of dedicated volunteers who can help our city, be the best it can be!

Eligibility
For most boards, commissions, and committees, applicants must be:
  • a resident of the city
  • 18 years or older

Appointments to city boards and commissions are made either by the Mayor or the City Council, or both, as in the case of the Budget Committee and the Water Commission. Terms on the various boards and commissions expire on January 31 of each year, and in November the city starts recruiting applicants for upcoming vacancies.

CEMETERY COMMISSION (3-year term):   Two full-term positions (terms expire 01/31/2022) and one partial-term position for a youth member (term expires 01/31/2021).  Meets monthly. Commission makes recommendations to the City Manager and City Council regarding the funding and operation of Eastwood Cemetery.  The Commission also works to secure donations and bequests for the Cemetery Trust Fund.
 
CITY BUDGET COMMITTEE (4-year term):  Two full-term positions (terms expire 01/31/2023) and one partial-term position (term expires 01/31/2021).  Meets primarily in the spring to review the City’s budget document prior to forwarding its recommendation to the City Council. 
 
COMMUNITY GRANTS COMMISSION (3-year term):  One partial term position (term expires 01/31/2022).  The Commission administers the City’s General Fund Grant program and acts as an advisor to the City Council on the appropriate implementation of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and related programs and statutory responsibilities.
 
 
HOSPITAL FACILITIES BOARD (5-year term):  One full-term position (term expires 01/31/2024).  Meets only when called, generally once per year.  The Board acts as a conduit that allows nonprofit hospital facilities to float tax-free bonds.
 
HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION (3-year term):  One full-term position (term expires 01/31/2022).  The Commission administers the City’s affordable housing program and advises the Council on matters related to the City’s housing stock and its development.
 
Vacancies on the Housing Commission are for the following positions:
  • Two members representing the construction and development community
  • One member representing a local lending institution
  • Two members representing local realtors and/or multifamily housing operators
  • Two members representing affordable housing developers
  • One member representing a tenant organization
  • One member-at-large encouraging representation from throughout the whole community
 
PARKING COMMISSION (3-year term):  Two full-term positions (terms expire 01/31/2022).  Meets monthly.  The Commission advises the City Council on matters related to parking in the Central Business District.
 
One position must be filled by a person who is a business owner or employee of a downtown business. 
 
POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (3-year term): Four full-term positions (terms expire 01/31/2022).  Meets quarterly. The Police Advisory Committee acts as an advisory committee, explores solutions to community concerns and provides a venue for citizen interaction with the Police Department.
 
Vacancies on the Police Advisory Committee are for the following positions:
  • One citizen representative from Ward 2
  • One citizen representative from Ward 4
  • One member representing the business community
  • One member representing a minority
 
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION (3-year terms):  Four full-term positions (terms expire 01/31/2021).  Meeting date and time to be determined.  The Transportation Commission advises City Council and the Planning Commission on all matters affecting transportation policy in the City and surrounding area.
 
URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY BUDGET COMMITTEE (3-year terms):  Two full‑term positions (terms expire 01/31/2022) and one partial-term position (term expires 01/31/2020).  Generally meets one time in odd years to review Medford Urban Renewal Agency’s budget document prior to forwarding its recommendation to the Board of Directors.
