A few words on security cameras from the Medford Police Department - We are loving all of the new security cameras people are getting, just in time for the holiday season. We would like to offer a few tips when you set them up.
The biggest issue we find is that people mount them too high and too far away. Sure this will show us that in fact, a humanoid committed the crime, but it doesn’t go far with helping to identify them. Most criminals wear hats and hoodies when they are out thieving, so getting a good face shot can be difficult.
Our recommendation is to mount them low and close to the area of concern. The downside is they are more subject to theft or tampering, but it increases our chance of identifying them dramatically.
Most know that our jail capacity is limited, but the good news is this allows us to identify many criminals on site because we arrest them over and over. We just need a good shot of their face.
