On Thursday morning, Dec. 13, the City of Medford’s Legal Department, Public Works Service Center and Regional Water Reclamation Facility (RWRF) received, what Medford Police have deemed, a non-credible bomb threat via email.
City staff at both the RWRF and Service Center followed standard operating procedure and evacuated the properties. Law enforcement responded to both areas and determined the email threat as non-credible. City staff have since returned to both properties.
According to MPD, this email scam has been dispersed nationwide and advise citizens that it is a hoax. Below is a copy of the email scam. In the event you ever come across a suspicious package or threat please contact law enforcement to determine the credibility.
“I write you to inform you that my recruited person has hidden a bomb (Tetryl) in the building where your company is conducted. It is assembled under my direction. It is small and it is hidden very carefully, it can not destroy the building structure, but you will get many wounded people if it explodes.
My man keeps the territory under the control. If he sees any suspicious activity, panic or policemen the bomb will be exploded.
I can call off my recruited person if you pay. You send me 20.000 dollars in BTC and explosive will not detonate, but do not try to fool me -I warrant you that I will withdraw my man only after 3 confirmations inblockchain.
It is my Bitcoin address : 1P3cNFy3SdfZ8PvMSdgLRcb2TtaLvxfqat
You have to solve problems with the transfer by the end of the working day. If the working day is over and people start leaving the building the device will explode.
Nothing personal this is just a business, if I do not receive the money and the explosive device detonates, next time other companies will pay me a lotmore, because this isnt a one-time action.
For my safety, I will not log into this email. I check my Bitcoin walleteverytwenty five minutes and after seeing the money I will order my recruited person to leave your area.
If the explosive device blows up and the authorities notice this email:
We are not a terrorist organization anddont take responsibility for explosions in other places.”
