The City of Medford is now accepting applications for the Medford Citizen Academy. This academy is designed for community residents looking to learn more about City services and how it relates to their everyday professional and personal lives.
At the end of the academy, participants should have an increased understanding of the organizational structure and operations of the various city departments that impact the quality of life in the City of Medford.
“Our goal for the academy is to provide an opportunity for citizens to learn about city government through firsthand experience and gain exposure to the wide range of local government functions, services and activities,” said City Manager, Brian Sjothun.
This eight-week course takes place on the following Tuesdays from 6-8PM: January 28, February 4, 11, 18, 25, and March 3, 10, 17. 10, 17, 24. Graduation will take place on March 19 at the City Council Meeting.
This free program is open to all Medford residents 18 years of age or older. Participants need to attend at least seven sessions to receive a certificate of completion for this course. Each class is limited to 20 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Completed applications need to be submitted by January 27.
Here's what one participant had to say about his experience at the academy: "When you can connect people with the stuff that's going on and you can see the problems that they are trying to wrestle with instead of us becoming complainers, we can actually initiate and get involved and make a difference," Ryan Rhoden said.
