The Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) is responsible for the investigation of felony and complex cases that require additional time, resources and specialized training. These cases include the investigations of homicides, sexual assaults, physical assaults, robberies, arson, burglaries, and major thefts.
This section consists of one Sergeant, eight Detectives, and one part-time Investigator. They work closely with the Financial Investigations Section (FIS), which is under the same Division.
Three of the Detectives assigned to CIS are specially trained to investigate child maltreatment cases and work closely with the Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center as well as the Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Programs (SANE).
CIS Detectives are also members of the Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigations Unit, as well as assisting with the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team in investigating serious/fatal motor vehicle collisions.
