COVID-19: City Facilities Reopen for Limited In-person Services

Traffic Engineering

The Traffic Engineering Section is responsible for providing efficient traffic flow throughout the City. It is responsible for tabulation and review of accident records and implementation of safety improvements to correct deficient street or operational conditions. It conducts traffic surveys involving speed zoning, stop sign and traffic signal warrants, parking, traffic volume counting, pedestrian and school crossing investigations. It also is involved in City-wide transportation planning. New development impacts on the street system are reviewed to determine and identify needed street improvements.

Traffic Engineering also designs, constructs and inspects City-financed traffic signal, street lighting, intersection modification and traffic calming projects. It is also responsible for enforcement of engineering and construction standards on all privately financed signal and street light projects through plan review and construction inspection.
