City of Medford Announces New Fire Chief

Eric Thompson, New Fire ChiefThe City is pleased to welcome Eric Thompson as the new Fire Chief. Thompson will replace Chief Brian Fish who announced his retirement last June and will stay with the fire department through Thompson’s transition into the position.
Thompson has over 24 years of experience in fire service and comes to Medford from the City of Red Oak, Texas where he has served as the Fire Chief and Assistant City Manager for the past 16 years.
Additionally, during his time in Red Oak, Thompson served as the north branch resource coordinator for Texas Intra Fire Mutual Aid System, coordinating mutual aid resources for 33 counties and was awarded the 2018 Fire Chief of the Year Award from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, we well as the 2014, and 2018 Presidents Award.
City Manager Brian Sjothun said the decision came after careful consideration. “It was a competitive process with several strong candidates, and I am confident that Chief Thompson will lead the Medford Fire-Rescue Department with integrity.”
Thompson will move to Medford with his family, wife Laura, and son Reese and is scheduled to start on January 2, 2020.
